 Santa Fe is the capital of New Mexico. Music and opera are well represented in Santa Fe with the annual Santa Fe Opera productions, which take place between late June and late August each year, and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival which is also held at the same time, mostly in the recently-refurbished movie theatre, the Lensic Theatre, now a major performing arts venue. Grants Demonstrate City’s Ongoing Support for Children and Youth Programs The Commission is composed of seven volunteer commissioners appointed by the Mayor. The current chairman is Bill Carson. Annual funding for grants comes from a minimum of 3% of the city’s share of state gross receipts taxes (GRT). Due to the current and projected downturn in GRT the number of grantees and the grant amounts are lower than the previous year. This year $1 million was awarded to 29 non-profit organizations and public school programs for July 2009 through June 2010. The Commission approved awards to the following organizations:
Boys & Girls Club: Alto St. afterschool & summer programs;
Challenge NM: Therapeutic Riding Program;
Cooking with Kids (in Santa Fe Public Schools);
Fine Arts for Children & Teens: ART Club;
Gerard's House Grief support for Children, Teens and Families;
Girls Inc.: afterschool and summer programs (Hillside & Zona del Sol);
Girls On the Run of S.F. (Healthy Lifestyles afterschool program);

The City of Santa Fe’s Community Service Department is getting ready for the 16th Annual Community Days celebration on the Plaza. This year the event will take place on Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Any not-for-profit organizations with 501(c)(3) status are eligible to register for a booth. This free community event is a great opportunity for organizations to get program information out to the public. Anyone interesting in signing up for booth space is encouraged to contact Laneia Marie Gallegos Marketing and Special Events Administrator at (505) 955-6917. Forms can be mailed or emailed to those interested. |
